Senior Gift Officer

The Senior Gift Officer serves as a fundraiser for the YWCA. Will develop and implement fundraising strategies and forecast fundraising estimates for the organization.

* Develops and implements effective fundraising strategy

* Creates awareness and demand for the organization’s services

* Identifies potential fundraising channels and effectively communicating the benefits of the organization’s services and fundraising opportunities available to meet the financial needs of the organization

* Identify, solicits, cultivates, and stewards donors and donor prospects

* Oversee and manages all aspects of high-level donor and funder relationships of $5,000 and higher, including donor research, qualification, cultivation, and stewardship to foster sustaining relationships with the YWCA

* Meeting revenue & expense projections

* Provides oversight for the preparation of written materials—letters, proposals, briefing documents—associated with major gift donor/funder relationships

* Responsible for developing increasing levels of involvement and support among donors and prospects through regular correspondence and contacts in person, by telephone, or by mail, alone and in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, and other volunteers and staff

* Responsible for developing budget, goals, and performance measures for expanding the major gifts program, with a goal to achieve 150-200 personal contacts per year with donors and prospects

* Oversees a comprehensive cultivation tracking system for all major and planned gift donors and prospects. Ensures the integrity of the donor and prospect files and database as they relate to major gifts

* Oversees the recruitment of volunteers to participate in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects and donors

* Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Development Elkhart County on effective donor cultivation and recognition activities and events

* Plans for the development of planned and major gifts communications through existing or new publications, brochures, media releases or letter communications

* Develops gift-related policies and procedures and abides by the standards of ethics and best practices as defined by the Association of Fund Raising Professionals

* Assists in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fundraising goals and objectives

* Serves as liaison for Board Development Committee

* Maintains a reliable communications mechanism with internal personnel to ensure efforts are in line with objectives

* Prepares paperwork for donors & maintaining fundraising documentation

* Performs other duties as assigned


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit or related field preferred
  • Experience in developing and recruiting for nonprofit organizations
  • Knowledge of nonprofit donation recruitment techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with donors
  • Flexible, creative, and able to work in a non-structured developing work environment
  • Demonstrated capacity to think "outside the box", communicate and motivate donors on the organization’s programs and new ideas
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills, including well-developed presentation skills
  • Excellent customer relationship skills
